Anna Hazare Health Worsens, Doctors Advise Maximum Rest

Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare's health has been deteriorating as his indefinite fast entered its eighth day on Tuesday. His condition has become a cause of concern for the civil society members and lakhs of his supporters across the nation.

As the doctors examined 73-year-old Hazare on Tuesday, they found the ketone levels in his blood higher as compared to Monday. He has been advised to avoid going out in the sun and speak less.

Hazare has stopped addressing the public gathering everyday at Ramlila Maidan, the venue for hunger strike, since Monday.

Doctors have asked the Gandhian to take rest as much as possible and decrease the number of public meetings.

Hazare's blood pressure was 124/82 when last checked and his pulse rate was 94. His weight has further gone down by 600 grams. Since August 16, when Hazare started the hunger strike, he has lost over 5.5 kg.

"The fire of revolution should keep burning. I will not leave Ramlila Maidan until the Jan Lokpal Bill is tabled in Parliament. We will not allow traitors to plunder the wealth of the nation," Hazare told thousands at the Maidan, where the police have permitted him a 15-day fast.

"We want to ensure justice for the common man. The youth of the country have awakened. I may have lost weight (with fasting) but my enthusiasm has not waned," said Hazare, who has been on a hunger strike ever since he was lodged at Tihar Jail on Tuesday.
